Charity Work

When I was first diagnosed I already had a place to run the 2019 London Marathon. It was a ballot place which means I wasn’t committed to raising money for any particular charity. I obviously had to defer my place as I was unable to run, but I knew as soon as I had finished my treatment that I wanted to raise money for all of causes that had helped me, not just for the marathon but I wanted to raise money in other ways too.

End of Chemotherapy Party
The first thing I did was a big end of chemotherapy party to celebrate finishing my treatment. I held a huge raffle with lots of prizes donated by various companies and local businesses and raised over £400. I decided to split this between 2 charities, Willow Foundation and Leukaemia Care. I contacted both charities prior to the party and they sent me balloons, banners and Leukaemia Care even sent badges and pens.

No Sugar October
My next fundraising mission was to raise money for Something To Look Forward To! I went an entire month without sugar, no biscuits, chocolate, sweets etc! I did this with my Mum and we both have a serious sweet tooth so it was incredibly difficult but we managed to successfully raise over £250!

London Marathon 2020
After deferring my place for the London Marathon, it took a while for me decide if I was going to give it another go in 2020. Once I decided I was going to give it a go I decided that I wanted to fundraise for Leukaemia Care. They sent me my very own vest top and even had a private group on Facebook to discuss our training and fundraising plans. I organised a huge charity raffle and contacted numerous big companies for prizes and raised over £650 to date. Unfortunately due to Covid-19 the marathon has been postponed until October 2020, which is when I’m supposed to be in Florida. So I decided to defer my place until 2021. I’m currently taking a break from both fundraising and my training, so I will be picking up where I left off in around October after my holiday!
